Laramie County Defeat Western Nebraska 76-68

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Laramie County Community College sprinted to a 43-28 lead by the half and secured a 76-68 key South-Sub Region win over Western Nebraska Community College on Saturday afternoon.

In a rematch of the South-Sub Region first round game, hosted by LCCC last spring and won by the Cougars 80-79. The Golden Eagles turned the tables this go round by shooting 49.1 percent for the game and holding WNCC to 39.4 percent. The Golden Eagles shot 55.2 percent (making 16-of-29 shots) in the first half.

LCCC improved to (7-5, 2-0) on the season under 10th year head coach Jason Ficca. WNCC dropped to (4-5, 0-1) overall. LCCC is currently sitting atop the South-Sub region.

Golden Eagle sophomore shooting guard Alfonso Anderson (Newark, New Jersey), hit eight of his 12 field goal attempts (including four of his seven three-pointers). He scored 20 points and added six rebounds.

Da'Zhon Wyche (Anchorage, Alaska) added 20 points, four assists, two rebounds and a steal. The freshman point guard was 7-for-10 from the floor. Freshman shooting guard Elijah Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyoming) shot 5-for-13 from the field and knocked down four three-pointers for 14 points in the game.

Harrison Meads (New Plymouth, New Zealand), also had a good afternoon. He made three of his four shots and both of his free throw attempts. Meads also tallied five rebounds. Sophomore post Dominik Heinzl (Uzov, Czech Republic) led LCCC in rebounds, with seven.

Trent Harris led WNCC with 15 points and four rebounds. Jeremy Ruffin added 12 points and eight rebounds. The Cougars were a combined 7-for-22 from the three-point line.

The Golden Eagles were 7-for-10 from the free-throw line, while the Cougars made 9 of their 14 attempts.

LCCC next game will be at home. The Golden Eagles play Casper College at the RAC at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
