Men’s Basketball Defeat Northwest Kansas Tech 77-75

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Laramie County Community College men's basketball team (3-5) defeated Northwest Kansas Technical College 77-75 on Tuesday evening. The game was aired by the student mass media production Wingspan.

Sophomores Dominik Heinzl and Alfonzo Anderson led the Golden Eagles with 18 points, reaching double figures in scoring for the third game in a row. Heinzl posted a double-double by adding 11 rebounds. Anderson pulled down six rebounds and picked up four steals.

The rest of the scoring was balanced for the Golden Eagles. Ola Ayodele and Elijah Oliver each finished with 10 points while Da'Zhon Wyche added eight points.

The Mavericks came out strong, taking a 20-12 lead on a three-point field goal by Eddie Reese with 9:53 left in the first half. From there, however, the Golden Eagles would chip away at the lead and go on a 12-6 run to close out the first half. LCCC headed to the locker room with a 41-36 advantage.

Northwest Kansas Tech clawed to within four on a drive by Osa Wilson with 15:30 remaining. The Golden Eagles would extend the lead back up to seven with under 7:00 minutes remaining on a few buckets from Oliver.

With 1:18 remaining Wyche gave the Golden Eagles a 72-70 and an Anderson free throw made 73-70. On the next possession, the Mavericks got a three from Kambrion Dickerson to tie the game up. Heinzl recorded a tip-in on the play to put LCCC back on top. Toby Van Ry got free under the basket with 6.1 remaining to knot it all up again. Anderson got the ball with little time remaining and drove the length of the court and banked a shot off of the glass and in with .3 seconds remaining to lift the Golden Eagles to the victory.

Reese led the Mavericks with 24 points while Wilson added 17 points.

Laramie County hits the road to face Planet Athlete Academy on Friday in Rock Springs, Wyoming at 4 p.m. in the Western Wyoming Classic.
