Rainbow 6: Seige pushes to semifinals, Street Fighter impresses in opening week of playoffs

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College esports teams had a strong showing to open the first week of postseason play in several titles, with deep tournament runs already by the Street Fighter 6 duos of Chet Hall and Deigo Frometa-Batezini along with a push to the National Championship semifinal match by the Rainbow 6: Seige team.

The week began prior to that with Vyctoria McCormick, the lone Super Smash Bros Ultimate player from LCCC to make the postseason field, falling in her opening match to Terra State 4-0 to end her fall campaign.

The opening round of street fighter had both Hall and Formeta-Batezini winning their opening matches against #10 Catawba Valley Community College and #12 Bryant and Stratton College respectively. In the quarterfinals, both would fall to the elimination bracket after Frometa-Batezini lost a heartbreaker to #4 Lackawanna County 3-2 and Hall dropping his match with Bryant and Stratton’s second team 3-0.

Hall would receive a forfeit in his first match in the consolation bracket, but in a rematch with Catawba Valley the Golden Eagle would fall 3-0 and end with a record of 2-2 in the bracket.

Frometa-Batezini faced off against #8 Yavapai College in his first elimination game and after a 3-1 win, he moved on to face #9 Centralia College who he proceeded to defeat in three straight matches. Unfortunately, the run would end in the elimination semifinals when #3 Heartland Community College won in the second 3-2 loss of the tournament for Frometa-Batezini and he finished two matches out of the National Championship match after going 3-2 in the tournament.

For Rainbow 6, the Golden Eagles made quick work of #7 Iowa Central Community College, dispatching them 2-0 as they made the push to their second straight semifinal where they will face off against #6 Northwest College who upset third seeded Harrisburg Area Community College in the quarterfinals.

The semifinal for R6S will be on Monday night at 5:00 pm and the national championship will be on Friday, December 8th at 5:00 pm.

The LCCC Call of Duty: Warzone team had their postseason start delayed by a week after server issues. They will resume their postseason on Friday afternoon in the opening rounds.
