LCCC see's multiple team in postseason races as season hits midway point

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College esports teams are at the midway point of their seasons. There have been a few teams setting themselves apart and several others are fighting for bubble positions. Check out the look that each team has here.

CALL OF DUTY: 4v4 (Modern Warfare II) - 2-3 (Tied 5th)

After a big shake up to the roster which added three new faces to the team, the Golden Eagles have been still working out their chemistry in the Invitational Season in the NJCAAe.

The team received a forfeit win this week from Calhoun Community College and are hoping the extra time can help them build their first winning streak of the season. The team have matches with Central Community College (4-1) and State Tech (2-4) and the team will most likely need to win one of their two remaining in order to qualify for the postseason field.

RAINBOW SIX: SIEGE – 3-1 (5th)

The Laramie County Siege team is in it’s second season and has seen a large change to the roster with some new faces bringing a new life to the squad. The Golden Eagles are sitting at 3-1 and in 5th place in the standings and are in a good position to make the postseason with three matches yet to play.

The team had a big match against group leader Gogebic College (5-0) rescheduled due to spring break and will have three all three matches in an eight day span from March 21st to March 28th and matches with 0-5 Pueblo Community College and 4-1 SUNY Corning Community College to round out the schedule.

HEARTHSTONE – 2-2 (6th – Group 2)

The first ever season for Laramie County in Hearthstone has been a very competitive one for Marek Ernst, and his 2-2 record is not indicative of how close he is to being undefeated on the season. Every one of the freshman’s matches have been decided in the fifth game and he has represented the Golden Eagle well, with one of those coming to the team leading their group.

This week’s match was pushed back to Sunday and Ernst will only have one more match to play with a bye coming his way in Week 7. If he can win both of these matches, there is a good possibility the Golden Eagles can qualify for the postseason in their inaugural season in the title.

CALL OF DUTY: WARZONE II – 4-1 (Tied 2nd – Group 2)

After dropping their second match of the season, the Golden Eagles have come out swinging and the duo of Dimitrios Chronopoulos and Andrew Santhuff have been unstoppable, winning their last three and continuing the success in the game title that LCCC has been most successful in in the two years of the program.

The only loss has come to the group leader from Catawba Valley and the final matches of the season against Eastern Arizona College (4-1) and Shelton State Community College (3-2) giving the duo a chance to make a statement going into the postseason where they should be one of the favorites to make a deep run.

OVERWATCH 2 – 3-1 (3rd – Group 1)

The Golden Eagles have built on their momentum from their first postseason appearance in team history during the Fall season. The team has come out strong since opening with a loss in their second match of the year against Dallas College – Richland (4-0) and have rolled to two straight wins, including a 3-0 victory over Northwestern Michigan in their last match.

Friday will pit Laramie County against Southwestern Illinois (1-3) and give them a good chance to stay in the third spot in their group, and two more wins would all but guarantee them a second straight trip to the postseason. The second win won’t be easy, as they will face USC-Sumpter (2-1) in week six and group leader Northwest Florida (4-0) in the last weeks, both of which have very strong esports programs.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS – 4-3 (4th - Group B)

The Golden Eagles dropped their final League of Legends match of the spring to Northern Virginia (7-0) but are still at fourth in their group which is good enough for them to qualify for the postseason with the top four on each side crossing over to take on the top team from the opposite pool.

The postseason is slatted to begin next week with quarterfinal matches played between March 20th and March 26th, and LCCC should be paired against either St. Claire (7-0) or Waubonsee (7-1). You can see the full schedule for the remainder of the Esports season by visiting the schedule here.
