Golden Eagles Win Season Opener on the Road

LCCC's got goals from its two returning leading scorers from last season on Saturday against Northwest Kansas Technical College. The Golden Eagles, who outshot the Mavericks 25-8 in the match needed a goal in overtime to get a 3-2 victory in Goodland Kansas.

LCCC (1-0) got on the board early as sophomore Tristan White headed home a cross from freshman Adrian Cordova in the 11th minute. Less than three minutes till the half, the Mavericks struck the back of the net as Kevin Foster converted on a free kick from 22 yards out. Match the half would be 1-1.

Sophomore Rafael Munoz led the Golden Eagles in scoring last season with 16 goals and got his first of the year in the 86th minute as he was able to run down a pass from freshman Jorge Rosales and touch around the keeper. Two minutes later, Northwest Kansas Tech was awarded a penalty kick and Paddy Chichosz tucked it away.

The match would go into overtime but it didn't take long for the Golden Eagles to get the win as White found Munoz four minutes into the overtime for the game-winning goal.

The Golden Eagles next match is on the road as they travel to Melbourne, Florida for a match up with #3 Eastern Florida State on Friday at 4 p.m. EST.
