CHEYENNE, WY – Three members of the Laramie County Community College volleyball team earned All-Conference honors for their work on the court, and another two picked up All-Tournament Team recognition for their work in the Region IX Championships for the Golden Eagles who finished as the Region IX and District B runner’s up.
All-Conference selections this season were handed out to Elysiana Fonseca who was named to the First Team for the second time in her career, as well as freshman standouts Addison Schreurs and Savannah Cummings who both made the Second Team.
“I am very proud of Elysiana, Savannah, and Addison for earning All Region honors,” Head Coach Zach Shaver said. “All three of them were key to our success this year! Having three student athletes on the All Region Teams shows how strong our team was overall.”
Fonseca finished the season with 333 kills for a new career high, giving her 604 in her career as a Golden Eagle. The sophomore also finished with 216 blocks in her career with the addition of 86 this season. Her hitting percentage was also one that stood out, hitting .283 on the year.
Schreurs became just the sixth Golden Eagle to ever finish with over 1000 assists in a season and became the third to achieve the feat in the three years that Shaver has been leading the program. Schreurs finished the season with 1139 assists while also stacking up 51 aces, 65 kills, and 36 blocks. The freshman finished the season averaging 8.5 assists per set.
Cummings led the back line for LCCC this season as the libero and if it weren’t for one of the best in the nation earning the top spot in the All-Conference voting, she would have easily been in the running. Cummings finished just shy of 600 digs with 599 in her freshman year. That mark is third all time in a season and already has Cummings in eighth place in the career standings.
Cummings was also named to the All-Region IX Tournament Team after picking up 52 digs in four matches, including a 21-dig performance in the five-set win over Western Wyoming Community College in the semifinals.
Joining her on the All-Tournament team was Lea Susoy who had 46 kills in the four matches of the tournament and added 56 digs as well, finishing with double-doubles against both Northeastern Junior College and WWCC.
Three of the four Golden Eagles who received post-season awards are freshmen with the option to return. For more information on them, and the LCCC volleyball roster, please visit www.golccc.com.
