Four Golden Eagles earn postseason recognition for LCCC Volleyball

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College volleyball team saw several athletes named to the All-Region IX North team and the All-Region IX Tournament teams with four athletes being named to the postseason awards lists.

“I am very proud of our team for the accomplishments and accolades we achieved this season! There were many memories and victories that will be remembered for a long time. I would like to especially thank all of our sophomores for all of time and work they put into making LCCC volleyball successful over the past 2 years. Now we will start the process of building next year’s team with our eyes set on taking the next step up the ladder of success,” Head Coach Zach Shaver said.

After finishing with a conference record of 10-2 for second place in the Region IX North standings, Demi Stauffenberg and Elysiana Fonseca picked up First Team honors for the Golden Eagles while Addyson McArthur and Kate Ohlsen were named to the second team.

Stauffenberg is on the All-Region IX North teams for the second time after finishing the season with 375 kills, 376 digs, 33 aces, and 32 blocks. All of which were career highs for the sophomore. She finished the season sixth in the conference standings for kills and was 10th in digs.

Fonseca was a force at the net in her freshman season and received a pair of votes in the race for Freshman of the Year. Her 130 total blocks on the season were third in the conference and her .270 hitting percentage was second.

The season for Ohlsen was also an eye opener. The setter finished with 1080 assists and averaged 8.31 per set. She also finished with 40 aces and 53 blocks while earning 287 digs.

The postseason accolades continued in the Region IX Tournament where Stauffenberg and Fonseca were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Golden Eagles.

The record books also saw some changes from the Golden Eagle volleyball team.

McArthur also finished with a 24 and a 23-kill match which are tied for 6th and 8th respectively for most in a single match.

Stauffenberg also wrapped up her career with the 9th most aces (62) in a career and finished with the 7th most digs (671) in school history. Joining her on the list for most digs is Sadie Christiansen who finished her career in 3rd for most digs in a career with 944 and has the 5th most digs in a single season after wrapping up her sophomore campaign with 544.

Ohlsen became just the fifth Golden Eagle all-time to finish a single season with over 1000 assists and her 1080 as a freshman also has her 7th on the list of career assists at LCCC.

Also, on the list of freshmen who have paved the way for great seasons to come, Fonseca finished the year with 130 blocks which is 6th all time for a single season and has her three away from moving into the top ten in a career. Fonseca also set single game marks for blocks with an 11-block performance against Trinidad State which is 2nd all-time and a nine-block performance which is tied for 6th all time.

LCCC is only graduating six of their sophomores from the 2023 roster and have the potential to bring back five starters from a team that went 29-8 and finished with the third most wins in the history of the program.
