Volleyball finishes off a 5-0 week with two wins over Treasure Valley and Colorado Northwest

CASPER, WY – The Laramie County Community College volleyball team cruised to two more wins on Saturday with over Treasure Valley Community College (25-11, 25-16, 25-16) and Colorado Northwest Community College (25-13, 26-28, 25-8, 25-8).

Match one's opening set was a tone setter, as LCCC was able to run through the Chukars with 41 kills in three sets, hitting .272 on the way to their first sweep of the weekend.

"I was really proud of our girls. They prepared well and came out and did exactly what the gameplan was against a pretty solid team that we played and did well while we were doing it," Head Coach Zach Shave said.

Addyson McArthur was the leading hitter with eleven kills and had a double double with 12 digs to go along side. Kate Ohlsen continued her strong play with her third 30 assist game of the weekend and added three kills of her own.

Shaver said he set goals for the team, and they rose to the challenge in the early morning match.

"I felt like we were doing a good job of earning points. We set a couple of statistical goals for each game, and we met those goals for each game and that's why we played better and executed well," he said.

Match two against Colorado Northwest had a slight road bump in the second set when LCCC was forced to extra points before falling 28-26. The team committed eleven errors in the set, but rallied to only make four total errors the rest of the way and completed their fourth win of the weekend.

"We were trying some different lineups and got a little careless in the middle of the second set," Shave said. "I like that they tied it up and forced extra points. I wish we would have finished it but they got back in it and took it seriously after that and took care of business in the next two sets."

The serving game was strong for the Golden Eagles, led by six aces from Demi Stauffenberg and four from Christiansen, the team compiled 21 through the match. Stauffenberg also led the squad in kills with eleven and eleven Golden Eagles recorded a kill in the match.

Ohlsen led the team in blocks with three to go with 18 assists and two kills.

The wins closed a 4-0 weekend at the Casper College tournament, improving the overall record to 7-2 for the Golden Eagles who go 5-0 on the week.

"We've improved," Shaver said. "They are working hard, and the new players are starting to realize what it takes to compete at the collegiate level and now we just need to keep improving because the teams are going to get a little tougher next week. But I think we are ready for it and I'm happy with how hard they are working."

The team will have a brief rest before they are back home for more action with Otero College on Wednesday evening at Storey Gymnasium. Match time is 7:00 pm and tickets are available for purchase at www.golccc.com/tickets.
