Volleyball Falls to Rattlers on the Road

LA JUNTA, Colo. - On the road, the Laramie County Community College volleyball team fell to Otero Junior College in four sets on Tuesday in La Junta, Colorado.

The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start as Otero jumped out early. Both teams would go on short spurts and it would be a tight set all of the way to the end. The Rattlers (13-6) would have a pair of set points to take the first set 25-22.

OJC had an early lead in the second set, but Laramie County took control midway thru with a run to even the match at a set apiece 25-23.

The Rattlers responded in the third set with a pair of big runs and capped the set by a score of 25-16. OJC would finish the match by taking the fourth set 25-15.

Sophomore Cassidy Nelson (South Jordan, Utah) led the way with 13 kills. Kyla Childers (Parker, Colorado) added nine kills. Gwen Sheldon (Loveland, Colorado) had 20 assists, while Shelby Veenstra (Twin Falls, Idaho). Kendzee Cloward (South Jordan, Utah) led the way with 13 digs, while Nelson finished with 12. Golden Eagles had a season-high 14 blocks on the night.

The Golden Eagles (3-18) jump back into Region IX North play Friday when they host Western Wyoming Community College at 7 p.m. LCCC will also host Central Wyoming College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
