LCCC Volleyball Sweep Casper In Region IX North Opener

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Golden Eagles continue be on a roll as of late on the court, and put it all together again this evening.

For the fifth straight outing, the Laramie County Community College volleyball team found the victory column and began Region IX North play with a win.

The Golden Eagles defeated Casper College 25-12, 25-16 and 25-19 on Friday.

"I thought our team came out ready to play and did a good job of valuing the ball, which has been a big focus for this week in practice," Laramie County volleyball coach Austin Albers said. "We eliminated some of unforced errors that plagued us last weekend and it allowed us to play with a lead for most of the match which is a nice change of pace from having to battle back against a strong team."

Avery Nelson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) led the way with 13 kills in the match for the Golden Eagles, who got nine digs from Kyle Meltzer (Fort Collins, Colorado), 10 kills and seven digs from Kylie Martin (Gypsum, Colorado) and 18 and 15 assists from Kasandra Sturges (Parker, Colorado) and Gwen Sheldon (Loveland, Colorado) respectively.

Having spent the last couple of weekends on the road, the Golden Eagles will be back on the road Saturday at the WyoBraska Shootout in Scottsbluff when they face McCook Community College at Noon and Trinidad State Junior College at 2 p.m.

"Now the test for us is to see how well we recover and carry momentum into tomorrow for two more matches," Albers said.
