Golden Eagles Victorious Over Eastern Wyoming

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – The #14 Laramie County Community College volleyball team secured a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-17) victory over Eastern Wyoming College in Region IX North play Tuesday night at the RAC.

LCCC stands 20-5 overall and 5-0 in Region IX North play.

Freshman Avery Nelson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) led the Golden Eagles offense recording 15 kills, followed by freshman teammate Kylie Martin (Gypsum, Colorado) who had 14 kills and a block.

Freshman Kyle Meltzer (Fort Collins, Colorado) led Laramie County's defense with eight digs followed by freshman Macy Bourn (Frederick, Colorado) with seven digs. Carlee Morrison (Gypsum, Colorado) recorded seven kills and a team-high two service aces. Kyra Brandt (Amsterdam, Netherlands) had team-high 41 assists.

In the first set, LCCC's offense got off to a quick 10-8 lead and extended that lead with a 5-2 run to jump up five points in the frame. LCCC took a 19-14 lead and forced EWC into their second timeout. The Lancers stuck around and closed the gap some but the Golden Eagles secured a 25-18 set victory.

LCCC started off the second set with an early 6-0 lead. The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 14-7. The Lancers offense ignited for a little bit as they fought back into the set but a kill from Morrison provided the Golden Eagles the 25-21 set win.

In the third set, the Golden Eagles led the stanza, 15-11 and would not let the Lancers offense go on a run. LCCC would take the third set 25-17 and match in straight sets.

#14 Laramie County continues its homestand against Northwest College on Friday at the RAC in a 7 p.m. contest.
