Sheridan, WY – The Golden Eagles volleyball team walked off the court victorious in the opening match of Region IX North play by defeating Sheridan College 3-0 Friday.

LCCC (16-5, 1-0) won the Region IX matchup by scores of 25-17, 25-14, 25-22. The Golden Eagles hit .275 on the night.

The Golden Eagles are back on the floor Saturday traveling to Casper for a matchup with Casper College at 3 p.m.

Once the Golden Eagles went ahead in the opening set Friday night, they refused to give the advantage took all three sets. All tied up at 10-10 in the opening set, LCCC reeled off four straight points and held off SC to take the 1-0 edge. The second bout was a breeze for the visitors, who managed several small runs to go up by as many 11 taking the set 25-14.

Sheridan was unwilling to go quietly into the night, putting together a strong third set to challenge the Golden Eagles but LCCC battled and secured the win.

Two navy and gold hitters reached double figures in kills and two had a hitting percentage above .400. Avery Nelson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) blazed the trail with 15 kills, while Carlee Morrison (Gypsum, Colorado) was next with 10 kills. Kylie Martin (Gypsum, Colorado) had nine kills and hitting percentage of .429. Payton Stack (Casper, Wyoming) had six kills and a hitting percentage of .417.

Kyra Brandt (Amsterdam, Netherlands) assisted on 36 points, while Morrison and Macy Bourn (Frederick, Colorado) each dug 16 SC attacks. Brandt and Bourn also served up two aces apiece. The visiting also produced five total aces in the match.
