Golden Eagles go 1-3 at Salt Lake Invite

Salt Lake City, UT – The Golden Eagles volleyball team (6-4) got to play some of the best competition in the country this weekend with three of their four matches against top 10 teams. The win came against Otero Junior College (3-1) and the losses came to #8 College of Southern Idaho (1-3), #1 Miami Dade (0-3) and #5 Salt Lake Community College (0-3).

In the team's first match of the day on Friday, the Golden Eagles notched a set from College of Southern Idaho before falling in four (25-20, 16-25, 12-25, and 20-25). Avery Nelson had 12 kills three aces and five digs in the match. The Golden Eagles used a balanced attack paced by sophomore Kyra Brandt and Renae Davis who handed out 27 assists combined. Carlee Morrison knocked down nine kills. On the back line, Macy Bourn led the defense with 15 digs.

Laramie County returned to the court for their second match of the day and lined up against Otero Junior College Rattlers. The Golden Eagles stormed out to an early lead thanks to dominating performances by Nelson and Morrison. LCCC took the match in four (25-17, 18-25, 25-12, 25-19).

Nelson led the way for Laramie County's offense with 15 kills, while teammates Morrison and Kylie Martin also reached double figure kills with 14 and 11. Brandt registered 24 assists as she fed her hitters. Bourn and Sydney Montoya were everywhere on defense getting their hands on 28 digs combined, while Davis tallied 10 and Morrison added five.

In the team's first match of the day on Saturday, the Golden Eagles pushed the #1 team in the country but fell in straight sets (18-25, 22-25 and 20-25).

Brandt handed out a season high 30 assists in the match. Morrison knocked down 10 kills and Jessica Benedict and Sara Gabriel added seven. On the back line, Bourn led the defense with 15 digs, while Kyle Meltzer added 14.

LCCC returned to the court for their second match of the day and lined up against host school #5 Salt Lake Community College. The Bruins stormed out to an early lead and controlled the entire match winning in straight sets (16-24, 21-25 and 14-25).
