Golden Eagles Take Two on Opener

Cheyenne, WY – The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles volleyball team opened the regular season at home with two victories over Trinidad State Junior College and Otero Junior College.

The Golden Eagles took down the Trojans of Trinidad State in four sets (17-25, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-18). After dropping the first set LCCC was able to correct some errors and get back on track to the victory. Avery Nelson led the Golden Eagles with 14 kills while Sara Gabriel recorded 13 kills. Sophomore Carlee Morrison had 12 digs, seven kills, five services for aces and three blocks. Kyra Brandt and Renae Davis led the team with 18 assists.

In the evening match the Golden Eagles corrected some service errors and eliminated the mistakes to get the win in four sets (25-21, 20-25, 25-19 and 25-11). Kylie Martin led the team with 13 kills. Nelson and Payton Stack had 10 kills and Morrison chipped in with eight kills. Macy Bourn had 15 digs, Davis had 13 and Kyle Meltzer had 11. Brandt and Davis each dished out 13 assists.

"We're a very young team so emotionally we were up and down and we've got to be more emotionally solid", said head coach Austin Albers. "Our serves need to be better so we don't give away so many easy points".

LCCC starts the year 2-0 on the year and will head to Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend for the College of Southern Nevada Invite where they will play #8 College of Southern Idaho, Yavapai College, Colorado Northwestern Community College and College of Southern Nevada.
