LCCC Women's Soccer nets seven on All-Region team

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team picked up seven spots on the 2023 All-Region IX team after not losing a game to any of their Region IX competitions during the season.

“The accolades the ladies put together this year showcases what this team was able to accomplish,” Head Coach Lugo Arenas said. “To have seven players recognized speaks volumes for what their individual seasons were able to piece together. We’re proud of them and what they brought to our season.”

The group was led by First Team All-Region and Second Team All-American selection Caroline Kuhn who wrapped up her career as a Golden Eagle this season. The forward was the team leader in goals this season with 11, including her second career hat trick at the collegiate level against Salt Lake Community College to open the season. Kuhn was also named on of the 12 All-Tournament Team members from the national tournament.

“Caroline’s All-American recognition was a perfect stamp to her career at LCCC. Her dedication to improving every day and striving to be better paid off with this award. She was an instrumental piece to this program, and we’re excited for her future,” Arenas said.

Other first team honors went to goalie Kiara Kershaw, defender Kayt Ward, and midfielder Tayler Miller.

Kershaw set multiple records during her time and had eight clean sheets during the season including shutouts in all three Region IX postseason games and received six of the 11 first place votes available.

Ward finishes her career with LCCC after starting all 39 games in her career with LCCC and was a part of 11 clean sheets in her career as the lead center back for the Golden Eagles.

Tayler Miller finished her season with a career high of five assists and four goals for 13 total points which was tied for fourth most on the team.

Second Team honors went to forward Macey Woolcock, who led the team in points with 31 and assists with 11, midfielder Abby Williams, who was second on the team with nine assists and two goals, and defender Kjerstin Bunderson who started all 18 games for the Golden Eagles this season.

Head Coach Lugo Arenas was named the Region IX Coach of the Year in his first season with the program after guiding them to a 10-0-3 record in Region IX play on the way to the national tournament. Arenas received seven of the total eleven votes available.

“Seasons like the one we had validated all the time and effort plugged in to make these group of women the best they can be,” Arenas said. “This award doesn’t happen without a great staff and a team that never settled for anything less. I’m grateful to receive coach of the year and I look forward to representing LCCC to the highest level.”

All seven of the Golden Eagles who made the All-Region team are sophomores this season, but one freshman did receive votes in the ballot, with Danielle O’Leary picking up attention.
