LCCC women finish home season with 6-0 win over Trinidad State

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College women's soccer team finished their home slate on Saturday afternoon with a 6-0 win over Trinidad State College, improving their Region IX record to 6-0-3 and holding onto the third spot in the conference standings.

"Overall, it was a nice win," Head Coach Lugo Arenas said. "There were some things we needed to perfect in a game like this, but we can walk away happy with three points."

The Golden Eagles struck quickly against a shorthanded Trinidad State team with a goal in the first minute from Macey Woolcock and another from Caroline Kuhn in the sixth minute. Both came off of assists from Whitney Hansen.

LCCC added another three goals in the opening frame with Tayler Miller striking in the 31st minute. That was followed by Danielle O'Leary finishing shots in the 38th and 45th minutes to give the Golden Eagles a 5-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Trinidad State collected their defense for a sturdier effort and only allowed one goal, but it was a special one as it gave Danielle O'Leary her first hat trick of her collegiate career on a 75th minute goal to give the final score at 6-0.

"I had told them I could care less who found the back of the net, it's the team that finds the back of the net and you see that in a lot of our goals. It was a complete buildup from one side to the other or four or five passes coming together," Arenas said.

LCCC finished the match with 51 shots and took 24 corner kicks in the game but were held at bay by the Trojan goalie who made 19 saves in the match.

Defensively the Golden Eagles looked sharp. They were able to take advantage of the Trojans lacking the extra man to attack and only gave up two shots in the game, and only one on goal, which Kiara Kershaw saved to earn her fifth clean sheet of the season.

"They did have a couple of players that could have been dangerous against us, but our defense stayed organized. It's tough when you don't get work the entire time to hold up when you do get called on and that was nice to see our players are capable of doing that."

The win keeps the Golden Eagles undefeated in Region IX play as they prepare for their final game of the year in Scottsbluff, Nebraska against Western Nebraska Community College. If they can earn a win or draw in that match, it will mark the first time since 2019 that the team has finished the regular season without a loss.

"It's been a while since the program has gone undefeated in region play and I think that's what the girls want," Arenas added. "I think that helped with the drive we needed to get three points today and hopefully three points next week against a tough Western Nebraska team."

Kickoff of the match is scheduled for 1:00 pm and more information can be found at www.golccc.com.
