LCCC women's soccer falls to #4 Eastern Florida State 5-1

COCOA, FL – The Laramie County Community College women's soccer team couldn't get their offense going for the second match in a row, falling to #4 Eastern Florida State College ----- in the final game of their Florida road trip on Sunday night.

The Titans were able to open the scoring in the first ten minutes with a cross to a goal but would be held quiet for the rest of the half until a 45th minute shot from 12 yards out found the back of the net giving the EFSC a 2-0 lead at the break.

Head Coach Lugo Arenas said the energy wasn't there at the start and it allowed Eastern Florida to get the early momentum.

"That's an early lesson I'd rather take now as opposed to halfway through or towards the end of the season."

The second half saw more of the same from Eastern Florida who picked up two more goals in the 51st and 56th minutes to take a big 4-0 lead on the Golden Eagles.

Laramie County picked up their only goal of the match with a penalty kick from Taylor Miller in the 78th minute that closed the deficit to 4-1 after she was taken down in the top right corner of the 18-yard box.

Eastern Florida added a fifth goal in the 82nd minute as the Golden Eagles dropped their third game to open the season.

Kiara Kershaw was under pressure all game long with 17 shots on goal from the Titans, saving 12 of them. The Titans out shot LCCC 27 to 6 in the match.

The lack of offense has hurt the Golden Eagles in the last two matches and Arenas said that is something that he and his coaching staff can work on and improve.

"We have numerous opportunities in the final third and then it's almost like they are asking what's next," he said. "That's on us as coaches to be able to put our kids in situations where they know what they are supposed to do. It's on us to provide them with as many options as possible so in the game some of those just become instincts."

Laramie County has a week to work before they are back in action on Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm when they host Central Wyoming College in the Region IX home opener. Attendance for the match is free and it will be preceded by the men's game at 1:00 pm.

"It was nice to see individuals step up and take on the challenge," Lugo summarized the trip. "Once we can get the whole group playing on that cohesion where they step up non-stop I think it's going to make a huge difference. But we needed this to get us prepped for what's coming up."
