Potter's Return Lifts Golden Eagles

CHEYENNE, WY - Avery Potter (Casper, Wyo.) scored twice in her return as the Golden Eagles beat Northwest 5-0 in the first round of the Region IX Tournament on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles didn't wait long before striking first thanks to freshman Jayla Wulf (Laramie, Wyo.) who connected on a strike from just outside the box on a feed from Jenaya Brown (Edmonton, Alberta) to give LCCC a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.

Avery Potter played in her first match since April 23 and delivered just a few minutes after taking the pitch. Potter extended the Golden Eagles' lead to 2-0, beating the keeper in the 20th minute on a pass from Ainsley Basich (Cheyenne, Wyo.). Potter then added her second of the game just three minutes later, against beating the keeper to push the advantage to 3-0. The brace was the first of Potter's career.

Erika Scivally (Lehi, Utah) made it a four-goal game before the stroke of halftime, finishing off a cross from Reagen Cordell (Farmington, N.M.) to push the lead to 4-0 in the 40th minute.

After a lengthy lightning delay of 110 minutes, the Golden Eagles continued to hold the Trappers off the scoreboard as keeper Caely Pickard (Laramie, Wyo.) made six saves in the shutout.

Grace Roswadovski (Gillette, Wyo.) capped the match off with an 87th-minute goal on a through ball from Basich. Basich and Brown both finished the match with two assists.

The Golden Eagles advance to the semi-finals of the Region IX Tournament, hosted by the Golden Eagles at LCCC, next Friday, May 21.
