Women’s Soccer Downed by Gillette in Region IX Final

DENVER, Colo. – Gillette College scored in the first half held the #3 Laramie County Community College women's soccer team off for the remainder of the contest to defeat the Golden Eagles, 1-0, in the Region IX Championship game on Sunday afternoon at Regency Athletic Complex at Metro State University.

Gillette's (16-2) Liliana Hernandez shot from six yards out found the net and lifted the Lady Pronghorns past LCCC (14-1-2). The goal came in the 19th minute of play.

In the first half, Laramie County saw early shots from sophomore Faith Meredith (Cheyenne, Wyoming) and freshman Beyonce Robinson (Ontario, Canada), but the Lady Pronghorns kept the Golden Eagles from scoring after several saves by goalkeeper Nia Trejo.

Meredith, Robinson, Cristiana de Andres and Thalita Portela Faria posted two shots each in the match. LCCC posted eight shots on goal in the contest.

GC out-shot the Golden Eagles, 14-13. Trejo recorded eight saves for Gillette and Larissa Sitzler (Hamburg, Germany) posted five saves.

The Golden Eagles will now wait and see if they receive an at-large bid to the NJCAA National Tournament.
