Golden Eagles dominate Rustlers 84-51 for 17th win of the season

CHEYENNE, WY - The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team never trailed in their dominant victory over Central Wyoming College on the way to an 84-51 win which marked their 17th of the season.

The first few minutes saw a back and forth keeping the two sides even at five all, but the offense for LCCC was sparked by a long defensive stand which allowed the Golden Eagles to roll off 17 straight points and take a 22-8 lead into the second quarter.

In the second quarter the Rustlers were able to slow the bleeding and their own offense found success beyond the three point line which allowed them to stay close and put up 18 points, but Laramie County was just a strong inside where Lylah Spring and Monique Marcetic-Voatangi combined to form a dual threat which paced the Golden Eagles to 24 points in the quarter and a 46-26 lead at the half.

LCCC didn't slow down their aggressive offensive pace in the second half and again rolled to a 24 point frame in the third before emptying their bench in the final period with a 70-41 advantage giving Head Coach Ayana McWilliams the opportunity to rest the starters as the lead swelled to as many as 34 points before the end of the quarter. In the final frame, the Golden Eagles took more time with the ball and paired with a strong defense, they closed the win 84-51 for their third conference victory of the season.

The team was paced by Marcetic-Voatangi with 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the team in both catagories, including five offensive rebounds. Lylah Spring and Jamy de Kock each had 16 points and Halle Hester finished with 13 points to go with a team high five assists. Andraya Dimas added another ten points off of the bench as the graduate of Cheyenne South High School set a career high in scoring.

The Golden Eagles shot 47 percent from the field as a team and finished 11-34 from beyond the arc while their defense held the Rustlers to just 27.7 percent from the field. The defense also was accountable for 12 steals and had five blocks making the paint a no-fly zone for Central Wyoming.

Laramie County will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Western Wyoming in search of revenge after the Mustangs handed them a 67-50 loss in their first meeting of the season. The opening tip for the game is scheduled for 5:00 pm from Rock Springs.
