Hester Nets 13 Points, Women’s Hoops Falls to #9 Western Nebraska, 82-54

CHEYENNE, WY – Freshman guard Sam Hester (Saratoga Springs, Utah) scored 13 points, but Laramie County Community College women's basketball fell to #9 Western Nebraska, 82-54, on Friday evening at the RAC.

The Golden Eagles (8-5) trailed 21-11 after the first quarter and struggled to score in the second quarter only tallying four points in the quarter. The visiting Cougars (14-1), led 50-15 at the half.

Hester finished with 13 points, 16 rebounds, an assist and a steal, while hitting 5-of-10 from the field. The double-double is the first of her career. Hester has scored in double figures seven times this season for the Golden Eagles.

Sophomores Saraven Allen (St. George, Utah) and Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) posted 12 points. Allen was 8-of-12 shooting from the foul line. Anderson was 6-of-6 from the foul line.

Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas) added four points, all from the foul line. She also pulled down nine rebounds.

Freshman Anna Terron (Tarragona, Spain) tallied a team-high three steals.

For Western Nebraska, Tishara Morehouse posted a game-high 29 points, while Lidsey Mahoukou notched a double-double on 16 points and 10 rebounds. Yuliyana Valcheva scored 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting.

The Cougars connected on 9-of-33 3-pointers (27.3 percent) while Laramie County only went 1-of-19 (5.3 percent) from the three-point line. The Golden Eagles forced the Cougars into 13 turnovers but committed 25 of their own and 17 in the first half. LCCC held an edge in rebounding (46-44) while Western Nebraska led in offensive rebounds (14-12).

Next, LCCC host Trinidad State Junior College at home on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m.
