Golden Eagles Defeat Indians at Home

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Following a big performance on Tuesday, the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles hosted the McCook Community College Indians in the RAC on Friday evening. LCCC led 43-24 at the half and coasted from there to an 84-56 victory. The Golden Eagles are 7-3 overall.

An 8-0 run would be how the Golden Eagles came out of the gate. The Golden Eagles knocked down two three-pointers to begin the game. One of those was by Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) who led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 16 points and four steals. The Golden Eagles went 6-for-9 from behind the arc in the first half. The first quarter ended with LCCC leading 29-13. The second quarter was tighter throughout good defense from both squads as only four points were scored in the first four minutes of the quarter. Saraven Allen (St. George, Utah) got some layups and ended the game with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas) finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals. The Golden Eagles led 43-24 at the end of the second quarter.

After the intermission, the third quarter was high scoring for both teams. The Golden Eagles outscored the Indians 27-23. The fourth quarter was all LCCC as they held the Indians to just nine points. Abby Garreaud (Magna, Utah) came up big knocking down shots in the final quarter and finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Golden Eagles committed 19 turnovers on the evening. Both teams had a great day on the offensive boards. Golden Eagles had a total of 11 with the Indians totaling eight offensive rebounds. The Golden Eagles were smart and scrappy getting a team total of 18 steals. Wells and Anderson captured four of those. The Golden Eagles shot 45.5 percent from the field for the evening and 41.2 percent from behind the three-point line. The Golden Eagles got to the free throw line 21 times and converted on 17 of those.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action when they host the Knights of North Platte Community College Saturday, December 7th at 2 p.m. The matchup will take place at the RAC on LCCC's campus.
