LCCC Rolls T A 67-54 Victory Over Anoka-Ramsey

YUMA, Arizona – After a slow start to the game, the Laramie County Community College women's basketball team put together a strong second half to comeback and pick up a 67-54 victory over Anoka-Ramsey in non-conference action in Yuma, Arizona Friday afternoon.

In the match against the Rams, the Golden Eagles shot 42.6-percent (26-for-61) from the floor as a team, including 4-of-15 from long range (26.7-percent) and 11-for-15 (73.3-percent) from the free-throw line. The Golden Eagles scored 42 second half points courtesy of a game-high 12 offensive rebounds, 18 points off 20 turnovers, to help gain the lead in the third quarter.

Scoring came in bunches for the Golden Eagles as nine Laramie County players etched their names into the scoring column. LCCC had three players in double-figures including freshman Abby Garreaud (Magna, Utah), sophomore Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) and sophomore Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas).

Garreaud registered her second double-double of the season as the Golden Eagles forward scored 16 points and pulled in a game-high 11 rebounds. Anderson scored 12 points to direct the Golden Eagles offense while the guard also recorded three steals and grabbed five rebounds. Wells added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Saraven Allen (St. George, Utah) dished out a game-high five assists.

Anoka-Ramsey opened the contest with some good looks at the basket and went on a run to a take a 17-12 lead after the first quarter. Out of the quarter break, the Golden Eagles tightened up the defense and held the Rams to 12 points in the quarter trailing 29-25 at the half.

In the third quarter the Golden Eagles began to light it up on the field offensively as they outscored ARCC 26-12, including a 19-4 scoring burst to jump ahead.

While ARCC found an offensive rhythm in the fourth and got to the free-throw line following some LCCC fouls, the Rams hole was too deep to climb out of as Laramie County walked away with the victory.

Laramie County continues the Arizona trip with another game in Yuma, Ariz., on Saturday, Nov.30, as LCCC takes on #13 Midland Community College at 4:30 p.m.
