CHEYENNE – A slow start from Laramie County Community College in the first quarter hurt as Eastern Wyoming College jumped out to a big lead in route to a 93-58 win. The Golden Eagles fall to 15-9 overall and 6-3 in the Region IX North, while the Lancers improve to 19-5 overall and 6-3 in the Region IX North.

This is the first of two meetings between the two teams.

The Lancers took advantage of the Golden Eagles slow start with a 10-0 run just under the five minute mark in the first quarter. The run led to the Lancers taking the first quarter 28-12. The second quarter the Golden Eagles chipped away at the lead early on but the Lancers would answer and extend their lead. The Lancers took the lead into halftime with a score of 46-26.

After the halftime break, the Golden Eagles shot the ball better as it was their only 20-point quarter. The Lancers were still able to find the net and pushed the after the third to 70-46.

Leading the offense for the Golden Eagles was Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah), who scored a team-high 15 points, followed by 11 points from Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota).

Emily Buchanan led the Lancers with 17 points, while Abril Roure, Nicole Cutler and Paula Sanz added 16.

The Golden Eagles shot 18-of-69 from the field for 26.1 percent, 10-of-33 from 3-point range for 30.3 percent and 12-of-20 from the free-throw line for 60 percent. The Lancers shot 33-of-67 from the field for 49.3 percent, 12-of-28 from beyond the arc for 42.9 percent and 15-of-21 from the free-throw line for 71.4 percent.

LCCC recorded 19 turnovers and six steals, while EWC committed 14 turnovers with 10 steals.

The Golden Eagles will return to action on Feb. 9 for a Region IX North game against Sheridan College in Sheridan, Wyoming. Game time is 2 p.m.
