Thunderbirds Beat Laramie County by 10

Cheyenne, WY – A strong matchup took place for the Laramie County Community College women's basketball team as Casper College came to Cheyenne Saturday afternoon. The women won the first quarter by four points but a big a third quarter for Casper helped them to an 82-72 win.

The Golden Eagles had four players score in double digits in the loss. Gabi O'Connor (Colorado Springs, Colorado) led them in scoring with 20 points. Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) followed with 19 points. Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas) added 11 and Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) had 10. As a team, the Golden Eagles only committed five turnovers in the game. Casper had the edge in the rebound margin 49-36. This was the second meeting in a Region IX North matchup between the two teams. The loss snaps LCCC's five game winning streak.

Casper came in playing as well as any team in the region having not lost a north region game yet. Casper was led by Maggie Justinak and Lucie Hoskova who recorded double-doubles. Justinak had 19 points and 13 rebounds while Hoskova had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Casper went 33-of-65 from the field, 8-of-26 from the three-point line and 8-of-13 from the free throw line.

LCCC shot 36.8 percent going 25-of-68 from the field, 9-for-34 from the three-point line and 13-of-22 from the free throw line. O'Connor and Aerial Stephenson (Garland, Texas) led the Golden Eagles in rebounds with seven.

LCCC is now 15-8 overall and 6-2 in the Region IX North.

Next up for the Golden Eagles is Eastern Wyoming College on Wednesday, 2/6/19 in Cheyenne, WY. The Lancers are 5-3 in the Region IX North. Game will begin at 5:30 p.m.
