Lady Golden Eagles Dominate Trinidad State JC

CHEYENNE – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team pulled away late in the second quarter to defeat Trinidad State Junior College Saturday at the RAC.

With the victory, the Golden Eagles extend their winning streak to four.

Leading 12-5, Laramie County used its defense to create offense with 4:00 left in the first quarter. Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) got a steal and found Gabi O'Connor (Colorado Springs, Colorado) who drilled a three-pointer. O'Connor then got a steal and passed to Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota), who laid it in to give the Golden Eagles a 17-9 at the end of the quarter.

The Golden Eagles (8-3) continued their run early in the second quarter as Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) found her way to the basket. The Lady Trojans made a run and tied the game up at 22-22 but the Golden Eagles pushed the lead up to 17 as they went on a 17-0 run.

Three LCCC players scored in double figures- led by O'Connor who recorded a career-high 32 points and pulled down eight rebounds. O'Brien scored 12 points pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and dished five assists. Anderson scored in double figures for the fourth time this season with 10 points. Laramie County had assists on 11 of its 25 field goals.

The Golden Eagles out-shot Trinidad State 41 percent to 32.1 percent. They made eight three-pointers to two for the Lady Trojans. TSJC dominated the boards with 42 rebounds to 35 for LCCC.

Laramie County forced 15 turnovers with six coming off steals. Walker had three and O'Connor had two. Walker also blocked a shot.

The Golden Eagles play again on December 4th when it visits Otero Junior College. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
