Women’s Basketball Close out Region IX South Play with Win Over Otero

LA JUNTA, Colo. – Freshman Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) led the Laramie County Community College women's basketball team to its 15th win of the season with the 49-45 victory over Otero Junior College.

The Golden Eagles close out Region IX South at 6-8 and 15-15 overall, while the Rattlers fall to 4-10 in the league and 10-17 overall.

Walker scored a team-high 13 points and pulled down four rebounds. Sophomore Madison Hamm (Fort Collins, Colorado) followed with 10 points and nine rebounds. Sarah Kruthaupt (Las Vegas, Nevada) pulled down 11 rebounds and added eight points. Kruthaupt also contributed with four assists.

The Golden Eagles shot 25.5 percent from the field (14-55) and 57.7 percent from the free throw line (15-26) while being held to a low perimeter shooting percentage at 23.1 (6-26). The Golden Eagles outrebounded their opponent 35-32.

The Rattlers were led by Laura Prado-Morales 10-point effort. McClain Walker added four rebounds.

Otero shot 26.2 percent from the field (16-61), 90 percent from the line (9-10) and 19 percent from the perimeter (4-21).

LCCC will open up the Region IX Tournament on the road against Trinidad State Junior College on Friday at 7 p.m.
