Women’s Basketball Fall to #24 WNCC, 94-69

SCOTTSBLUFF – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team showed grit on Friday but in the end it wasn't enough as they fell to #24 Western Nebraska Community College on the road, 94-69.

The Golden Eagles are now 2-1 in Region IX South play with an overall record of 10-8, while the Lady Cougars improve to 15-2.

This was the program's first game back from the holiday break, who last played a game back on December 16th.

Freshman Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) and Sarah Kruthaupt (Las Vegas, Nevada) led the scoring efforts for LCCC with 15 points and 14 points, respectively. Two other Golden Eagles scored in double figures as Skylar Backstrom (Castle Rock, Colorado) and Caylin Arnold (Strasburg, Colorado) each had 11 points. Arnold also pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double.

Western Nebraska was led by five double-figure efforts, starting with Merle Wiehl who tallied 24 points. Melisa Kadic added 22 points, followed by Anastacia Johnson with 11. Giovanna Silva and Sophie Agorakis had 10 each. Karli Seay had 11 assists for WNCC.

The Golden Eagles shot 33.3 percent from the floor (17-for-51) while Western Nebraska shot 50 percent (36-for-72). LCCC hit a new season-high from the line, hitting 30 of 37 from the charity stripe for 81.1 percent.

The Golden Eagles will stay on the road as they travel to Trinidad State Junior College on Saturday, Jan. 13.
