LCCC Women’s Basketball Falls to Casper College, 90-60

CASPER – Freshman Skylar Backstrom (Castle Rock, Colorado) led with a team-high performance, but the Laramie County Community College women's basketball team was unable to gain momentum and the Golden Eagles fell to Casper College, 90-60.

LCCC now sits at 10-7 overall heading into the holiday break. The Thunderbirds rise to 13-2 overall.

Backstrom led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 17 points, this is the 11th time that she has scored in double-figures. Freshman Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) led the team on the boards with five rebounds, followed Sarah Kruthaupt (Las Vegas, Nevada) who contributed four.

Sophomore Madison Hamm (Fort Collins, Colorado), who averaged 11.5 ppg and 6.3 rpg heading into the weekend, was held to only six points and one rebound.

The Thunderbirds were led by five double-figure efforts from Paula Orenes Sanchez (12 points), Ashlie Larson (12 points), Lucie Hoskova (10 points), Caroline Rivera (10 points) and Maggie Justinak (10 points). Larson dominated from the perimeter, shooting 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Emily Robertson led them in rebounds with seven.

The Thunderbirds bested LCCC on the boards with a 51-25 advantage. Casper shot 52.9 percent from the field while the Golden Eagles shot 32.8 percent. The Thunderbirds also led with 43.5 percent from 3-point range and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.

The Golden Eagles will return to the court on Friday, Jan. 5. For a Region IX South game as they travel to Western Nebraska at 5 p.m.
