Women’s Basketball Secures Win Against Central Wyoming

CHEYENNE – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team maintained a high scoring second half in route to a victory against Central Wyoming College, 88-76 at home in the Recreation Athletic Center.

The Golden Eagles land at 9-5 overall and have won four straight. The Golden Eagles defeated CWC 71-65 earlier in the year.

Sophomore Madison Hamm (Fort Collins, Colorado) was back atop the score sheet for the Golden Eagles with a team-high 22 points. Freshman Sarah Kruthaupt (Las Vegas, Nevada) scored 17 points, Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) added 14 points and Skylar Backstrom (Castle Rock, Colorado) was the other Golden Eagle to double-figures with 11 points.

The Rustlers were led three double-figures efforts starting with the 34 points from Paulani Tarawa. Rylee Burmester added another 13 points and Marissa Arnold scored 12.

The Golden Eagles found themselves at a deficit early but knotted things up at 12-12 after a Ashleigh Ellis three-pointer. LCCC closed the first quarter on a 9-1 run. The Golden Eagles closed the half with a 41-27 lead.

LCCC didn't struggle from the floor the first half, registering four three-pointers in the half and shooting 44.4 percent from the field. The Golden Eagles shot 83.3 percent from the foul-line in the first half.

CWC made a resurgence in the second half shooting 55.5 percent from the field. While the Rustlers were hot, so were the Golden Eagles as they shot 42.1 percent from the field in the second half.

LCCC shot 43.2 percent from the field overall, 36.4 percent from long-range and 84.2 percent from the charity stripe while bringing down 40 rebounds.

The Rustlers went 45.6 percent from the field, 0 percent from 3-point range and 58.3 percent from the line.

The Golden Eagles will be back at home on Thursday with a 5 p.m. tipoff vs Northeastern Junior College. Tickets for this and all LCCC basketball home games are $5 for adults, $3 for students, $2 for seniors and military and all LCCC staff and faculty admission is free with valid ID.
