LCCC Women’s Basketball Clinches Victory over McCook CC, 62-61

MCCOOK – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team came away with an exciting victory against McCook Community College on the road Saturday, 62-61.

The Golden Eagles are now 8-5 overall this season while the Indians fall to 3-8.

Freshman Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) led the team with a team-high 15 points. She was one of two Golden Eagles to land in double-figures alongside freshman Sarah Kruthaupt (Las Vegas, Nevada) who had 14 points. Madison Hamm (Fort Collins, Colorado) led the team on the boards for the second consecutive game with nine rebounds.

Skylar Backstrom (Castle Rock, Colorado) and Darian Hale (Briggsdale, Colorado) also put up key points as they both knocked down a shot from 3-point range. Backstrom and Hale closed the game with nine points.

McCook CC had two players in double-figures starting with Sam Hinkle 15-point effort. Aliyah Foote contributed another 13 while Hinkle and Gabrielle Enloe led the team with nine rebounds.

Hale came off the bench and put up an impressive performance with nine points. LCCC led in the field goal percentage, shooting 34.4 percent (21-61) to the Indians 33.8 percent (23-68). The Indians had the edge from the three-point line shooting 35.3 percent (6-17) while the Golden Eagles shot 22.2 percent (6-27). LCCC also had 10 assists.

The Golden Eagles and Indians couldn't separate themselves from one another early on as they were knotted up 18-18 after the first quarter. This was the story for the game, as MCC built up a three point cushion into the break 35-32.

LCCC cut that lead down to one after three quarters. LCCC took the lead late in the fourth quarter after Kruthaupt knocked 1-2 free throws for the lead. MCC turned the ball over on the final possession.

The Golden Eagles will return home on Tuesday, December 5, with a 5 p.m. showdown against Central Wyoming College. Tickets for this and all LCCC basketball home games are $5 for adults, $3 for students, $2 for seniors and military. All LCCC staff, faculty and student get in free with a valid ID.
