LCCC rodeo sees strong individual performances lead the way in Torrington

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College rodeo picked up some important points on the men's and women's side in a strong showing at the EWC Lancer Rodeo and both teams finished in second place in their respective divisions.

Individually, Dixon Tattrie had one of the best weekends out of all of the Golden Eagles on the men's side in saddle bronc where he won the first go with a ride of 81 and picked up second in the short go with a 73. That also gave him second in the average for 160 total points in the rodeo and he moved up to second in the region standings.

Tattrie is now just 46.67 points out of the top spot in the region with the performance and has a 73.33-point advantage on the fourth position as well.

Cory Bomhoff also had a good weekend in tie down where he was third in the average with a total time of 20.5 on two runs. His 9.7 in the long go was only good for a tie for fifth, but he finished with 95 points overall and made a big jump to a tie for sixth in the season standings. Both Gage Davis and Rhett Witt also made it back, but neither were able to get points.

Witt did have a very strong weekend in the steer wrestling, where his 135 points moved him into the conversation for the all-around title for the region. He put two runs together for a 10.9 on the weekend to finish second in the average and picked up 135 points for his best rodeo in steer wrestling this year.

Five total Golden Eagles made it back to the short go in steer wrestling, and Tucker Ravenscroft also finished in the top six in the average with a 12.8 on two runs, gaining 70 points. Davis's 5.7 in the long go was enough for a tie for third and Dane Pokorny finished sixth in both the short go and the average for 20 points in the season standings.

For the season, Pokorny remains in the second spot but only has a five-point lead on third and Ravenscroft moved back into fourth with just 10 points separating himself from second. Witt's weekend also pushed him into the sixth spot in the season standings, five points ahead of Davis and just 70 points out of third.

The top nine positions are all being held by LCCC or University of Wyoming athletes.

Reece Wadhams and his partner Rio Nutter from the University of Wyoming had a nice bounce back in team roping where they won the short go with a time of 6.1 and took second in the rodeo with a 13.9 in the average. The duo is still sitting in a strong position at second in the CRMR and is in a good spot to qualify for their second consecutive College National Finals Rodeo as a team.

Tate Miller picked up another 10 points in the bareback after finishing in sixth in the average. He retained his position at fourth in the region standings and is 95 points out of the third spot.

On the women's side, Rayne Grant was the fastest time in the short go but knocked over a pair of barrels in her second run to finish out of the average, however the sophomore is still leading the CRMR standings going into the Skyline Stampede this weekend as she looks to be the first Golden Eagle to qualify for the CNFR in barrels in school history. She is currently holding a 30 point edge on second and is over 200 points ahead of the rider in fourth.

Grant also picked up another 45 points in goat tying with a fifth-place finish in the average and LCCC had four make it back on the women's side, including Wacey Day and Kaitlynn Idler who both tied for third in the long go. Kassidy Dunagan also made it back but was just outside of the top six in the average and didn't manage to earn any points.

Day remains right in the thick of the hunt for the third spot in the CRMR standings with four athletes all sitting within 30 points of each other for the final spot in Casper. All three of the other competitors are from the University of Wyoming.

Grant added points in all three events with a third-place finish in the average for breakaway after being the last rider in after the long go. Her 2.6 won the short go and her 5.9 was third in the average for 100 more points to her season tally.

The strong weekend in breakaway pushed Grant into the fourth spot in the standings for the season and just 55 points out of the third spot in the region.

In the bareback, both Golden Eagles finished with some points as Tate Miller was sixth in the average with a two-ride total of 130. Tanner Drueke couldn't stay on his re-ride in the short go but did pick up five points with a 69 in his first ride of the rodeo.

The LCCC rodeo team will be in action this weekend when they travel to Loveland for the Skyline Stampede which is hosted by Colorado State University. The location has been changed from the normal site in Fort Collins to the MAC Arena at The Ranch Events Complex.
