LA JUNTA, CO – For the first time in conference action, the #12 Laramie County Community College men's soccer team took a loss as they dropped their road match with Otero College 3-1 on Friday night.
The Golden Eagles had to wait a little longer than expected to get the match going. Weather pushed through the area and forced the match to be delayed by nearly two hours after just nine minutes had been played.
Once the game resumed just after 7:30 pm, it was Otero that found the first success of the evening with a goal in the 26th minute.
This wasn't the first time the Golden Eagles had trailed this season though, and there was no panic. After earning a corner kick, Cooper Johnson was able to find Tristan Villanueva to redirect a shot into the goal to even the match in the 35th minute.
The second half brought a new push from Otero who would outshoot LCCC 12-9 in the match and 5-4 in the second half, but more of their shots would end up on the frame, including the go-ahead goal in the 51st minute to put the Rattlers on top 2-1.
They would follow with a third goal in the 72nd minute that would all but ice the game away as LCCC dropped to 7-2 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.
The Golden Eagles will be right back in action with a short turnaround for an 11:00 am game against Trinidad State College on Saturday morning in Trinidad.
There is no livestream for that match available but information on the full schedule is available at www.golccc.com.
