ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The upset train rolled on for the Laramie County Community College men's soccer team after they toppled #20 Monroe Community College 2-1 on Saturday night on the Tribune's home field, coming from behind to seal the victory for the third straight win of the season.
The two-team struggled to make much happen in the opening half and both offenses were kept away from the goals after the two teams were able to only combine for five shots in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, the story was very different, especially for LCCC who picked up their pressure on the Tribunes with 11 shots.
It was Monroe that hit first though. In the 58th minute the Tribunes found Justin Krampl for the opening goal, putting the Golden Eagles into the hole.
LCCC didn't stay there long. It took all of 13 seconds before LCCC hit their first goal on a counterattack, with Gilberto Vargas finding his first goal of the season to answer and even the game at 1-1 on an assist from Cooper Johnson.
The Golden Eagles assault was tenacious in the final thirty minutes, possessing the ball well and putting nearly three times as many shots up as Monroe. That would pay off with Darrien Gates II finished a shot from 25 yards out to give LCCC the lead with just eight minutes to play.
The defense only allowed four total shots from the Tribunes in the second half and also limited them to just one corner kick, putting pressure on MCC in the midfield and not allowing for them to have a clean look at the equalizer.
The win goes as three in a row for the Golden Eagles who used it to claim their second consecutive win over a ranked opponent. It also gives them a winning record in the non-conference schedule for the first time under Head Coach Fernando Perez.
Up next, they will have a week of rest before they host Gillette and #12 Casper College who finished their preseason at an identical 3-1.
