LCCC men close home schedule with 4-0 victory over Trinidad State

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College men's soccer team rebounded well from a tough loss Friday when they shut out the Trinidad State College Trojans 4-0 on Saturday afternoon to complete their regular season home schedule.

It was sophomore day for the Golden Eagles and earning the win at home meant a lot to Head Coach Fernando Perez.

"It's my first recruiting class as a head coach and I'm happy with them. This year they flourished to be who they could be, and just be great people at the end of the day and that's what I'm happy with."

It took some time for LCCC to find their rhythm against Trinidad in the opening half, only managing seven shots, but they did find the back of the net in the 22nd minute when Owen Sanchez finished a Alan Flores cross to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0.

In the second half, things seemed to come much easier for the team.

In the 60th minute, Cheyenne native Caden Smith earned his first goal of the season to double the score for LCCC. Perez said the team's effort which produced 17 shots in the second half made him proud.

"I think they responded very well. They knew they still had the next 45 minutes to get the result and they did a good job."

That was followed just ten minutes later by the first of two goals for Yussuf Adan when he tipped a ball past the goalie from 22 yards out on a breakaway that was started by Brandon Young. The same duo would combine 15 minutes later when Adan finished a cross to make it 4-0 in the 85th minute.

"He brings that energy and brought it last year," Perez said of Adan, whose goals were his first in his collegiate career. "He's the guy that's always encouraging others to play regardless of the score and today you could see it. He got to finish two goals today on sophomore day in front of his family."

The defensive effort for the Golden Eagles was outstanding, finishing the match by only allowing seven shots. Adan Herrera was sparkling in net, picking up his second clean sheet of the season.

"They showed up to play today and we got the result. I'm happy with the guys and I'm proud of them, and we will take the three points," Perez said.

LCCC currently is second in the region standings and a win in their final match of the season on Saturday against Western Nebraska would put them in the conversation for a first-round bye in the Region IX playoffs which are set to begin on October 21st with quarterfinal games.

The match at Western Nebraska is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 pm and more information is available at www.golccc.com.
