90th minute goal lifts #13 Otero College past LCCC men

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College men's soccer team was bitten late by #13 Otero College on Friday's home match, falling 2-1 on a final minute goal in only their second Region IX loss of the season.

The Golden Eagles found themselves facing a deficit early in the match after a ninth minute header put the Rattlers up 1-0. They would take that lead into the halftime break.

The Golden Eagles offense began to find a better rhythm in the second half after being held without a shot in the opening 45 minutes. They eventually broke through on a breakaway run that resulted in a penalty kick.

Owen Sanchez finished the play in the 77th minute by finding the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

The final minutes of the game would turn into a tense affair. The two sides combined for seven cards in the last ten minutes of the match, but the dagger would be a red card handed out in the 88th minute to the Golden Eagles.

Taking advantage of LCCC being a man down, Otero was able to find the back of the net with just 37 seconds remaining in the game to take a 2-1 lead and avoid their third draw of the season and dropping the Golden Eagles to 4-2-1 in Region IX play.

As a team, LCCC was held to just four shots, but Adan Herrera made up for it in net with strong defense leading to seven saves on the 17 shots taken by the Rattlers.

The Golden Eagles will have to bounce back on Saturday when they welcome Trinidad State College for sophomore day, with the match scheduled for 1:00 pm.

Sophomore recognition will be held 20 minutes before kickoff.
