LCCC frustrate Salt Lake but can't find offense in 2-0 loss to #4

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – The Laramie County Community College men's soccer team was held scoreless by the #4 Salt Lake Community College Bruins as they fell 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Head Coach Fernando Perez said despite the final score, he was pleased with his squad's focus on the defense after emphasizing it before the game.

"We'd given up some goals in other matches, so I said 'Hey, let's focus on the defending side' because I knew Salt Lake was going to come out and attack heavily, and they played well for 90 minutes," he said.

The Golden Eagles defense was strong through most of the game, particularly in the first half. The only goal surrendered by LCCC came on a penalty kick in the 44th minute that opened the scoring for Salt Lake.

The Bruins would be frustrated through both halves by the Golden Eagles defense which managed to play bend but don't break long enough to only allow the two goals on 33 shots by the Bruins, 18 of which were saved by Adan Herrera in net.

"He's finally starting to come out and be aggressive and own the box," Perez said of his starting keeper. "I know the type of keeper he is, but I think he still has a lot of untapped potential moving forward."

The second goal for SLCC came as time was winding down in the 88th minute to secure the lead and the win.

Laramie County was only able to manage one shot on goal in the game from Alan Flores and only four total shots in the match.

One yellow card was given out to Herrera in the 58th minute.

The Golden Eagles have made strides on the defensive side of the ball, but the offense is lagging behind, and Perez said they are still finding their rhythm as a team.

"I think that's something we just haven't found yet. That tempo, the rhythm, connecting passes moving forward to get the goals that we need."

LCCC will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Denver, Colorado for a scrimmage with MLS Next. Their next official action will be on September 8th when they host Central Wyoming College at 1:00 pm. Information on the LCCC men's soccer team can be found at www.golccc.com.
