Maletic Scores 16 in Loss to Northeastern

CHEYENNE, WY - Marko Maletic (London, Ontario) scored 16 points, hitting four threes in the LCCC Golden Eagles (3-5) 74-65 loss to Northeastern (3-3) on Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start, going scoreless in the first two minutes of the game before an Arion Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa.) layup put the Golden Eagles on the board. LCCC opened up an 11-5 lead when Erik Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyo.) drained a three.

Lewis finished the night with 10 points and 12 assists while Oliver ended the game as the Golden Eagles' leading scorer with 17 points.

Northeastern embarked on a 7-0 run to take the lead before both teams started trading threes. Ghared Boyce (Brockton, Mass.) buried a three to give the Golden Eagles a 16-14 lead before Northeastern closed out the half with a run to give the Plainsmen a 30-28 lead at the break.

The Plainsmen started the second half on a 7-2 run and eventually opened up a 50-37 lead before a Maletic three brought the Golden Eagles within ten. A Nolan Causwell (Duluth, Ga.) dunk and an Oliver three closed the gap to five at 56-51. That would be the closest the Golden Eagles would get as the Plainsmen answered and the Golden Eagles could not finish the comeback, losing 74-65.

LCCC plays at McCook on Friday at 6:30 pm (MST).
