Golden Eagles Fall to the Generals

(Cheyenne, WY) The LCCC Golden Eagles lead for much of the game but fell to the Sheridan College Generals 92 - 96.  The Golden Eagles had a slow start and were down by as much as 7 in the first half. They battled back and took a 13 point lead with two free throws by Chris Grace with 8:38 left in the first half. The Generals mounted small runs but the Golden Eagles held steady and at halftime the Golden Eagles led 50 - 45. Erik Oliver, LCCC's leading scorer, left the game right before halftime with an injury and did not return. LCCC was six for seven from the charity strip in the first half. 

At the start of the second half, the Generals closed to within three but a basket by Kyle Cabs put the lead back to five. At the 16 minute mark, a trey by JoVon McClanahan gave the Generals the lead for good. The Golden Eagles closed the gap to within 6 several times but the Generals led by Marcus Stephens' 34 points kept the Golden Eagles at Bay. A three pointer by Damien Perry late in the game cut the lead to four points. The Golden Eagles struggled at the free throw line in the second half going four for eight. 

The loss dropped the Eagles to 4 - 20 on the season and 2 - 8 in Region IX North play. The Golden Eagles were lead by Mateo Zovko with 23 points and Damien Perry with 20 points. Zovko also led LCCC with 10 rebounds recording a double double in the loss. Freshman Caleb Davis notched 9 rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Sheridan College improved to 18 - 8 and 5 - 5 in Region IX North. The Golden Eagles were outrebounded 42 - 29. LCCC shot 49% from the floor and 42% behind the arc. From the free throw line the Golden Eagles shot 66% while the Generals took advantage of their visits to the charity strip hitting 25 of 28. 

The Golden Eagles are next in action on Wednesday, February 12th taking on Region IX North leader Western Wyoming at 7:30 pm in the RAC.
