Trinidad State Uses Second Half 3-Point Barrage to Topple LCCC, 85-68

Cheyenne, WY – Trinidad State Junior College connected on seven second half treys, led by Bilal Shabazz game-high 19 points and four treys, to get past Laramie County Community College, 85-68, Saturday evening at the RAC.

The Trojans connected on 9-of-23 treys overall, while LCCC converted 6-of-21 treys.

Trinidad State converted 34-of-59 field goals overall (57.6-percent), and Laramie County hit 24-of-64 field goals (37.5-percent).

Laramie County sophomore Cortney Dean (Denver, Colorado) was one of three Golden Eagles to score a team-high 10 points, knocking down a three-pointer and hitting 4-of-7 field goals overall, while recording three steals.

Golden Eagles' sophomore Kyle Cabs (Denver, Colorado) had 10 points and six rebounds, and freshman Erik Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyoming) added 10 points. Freshman Dante Sofia (Liverpool, England) scored nine points and pulled down two rebounds.

Shabazz connected on 4-of-7 treys in scoring his 19 points and added seven rebounds. Dylan West also scored in double figures for the Trojans with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field.

LCCC came to play at the RAC, outscoring Trinidad State, 17-13, to open the game following a short jump shot by Oliver with 9:54 remaining in the half. The Golden Eagles would hold onto the lead all the way up until the end of the half where Trinidad State pulled ahead, 27-26, at intermission.

The Trojans broke the game open in the second half, building a 57-44 lead midway through the second half. The Trojans would knock down seven three-pointers in the second half and take the game 85-68.

Laramie County will host Western Nebraska Community College on Saturday, January 4 in the Golden Eagle New Year's Shootout. It's the second meeting this season between the Golden Eagles and the Cougars. Tip-off at the RAC is at 4 p.m.
