Knights Outlast Golden Eagles in Weekend Matchup

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – The Golden Eagles were looking to snag back-to-back wins after hosting McCook the night before. However, the Knights of North Platte Community College jumped ahead early in the game and successfully fended off the Golden Eagles charge to defeat the home squad, 84-73, Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles move to 2-8 overall.

With two minutes underway, Erik Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyoming) knocked down the first of his four jumpers and kept the Golden Eagles within reach. LCCC trimmed the lead down to three with under five minutes to play in the first half. From there the Knights went on a 15-5 run to close out the half. LCCC trailed 48-35 at the break. Out of the locker rooms, the Golden Eagles kept pace with the Knights but were never able to recover lost ground from the first half.

The Golden Eagles shot 48.1 percent (25-52) from the field and were 5-of-20 (25%) from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles pulled down 25 total rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds. Individually, Oliver led with 19 points. Damien Perry (North Dartmouth, Massachusetts) charted 12 points. Chris Grace (Needville, Texas) and Mateo Zovko (Mostar, Bosnia) each contributed double digits as well with 10 points. Oliver pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Perry dished out three of the Golden Eagles nine assists. Three Golden Eagles collected a steal each. Caleb Davis (Grand Junction, Colorado) had two blocks in the game.

Up next, the Golden Eagles will hit the road for a non-conference matchup against the #4 Rattlers of Otero Junior College on Tuesday, December 10 at 5 p.m. in La Junta, Colorado.
