Men’s Basketball Defeats McCook 98-85

CHEYENNE, WY – Four Laramie County Community College players finished in double figures, as an explosive second half led the Golden Eagles to a 98-85 victory over the McCook Community College Indians on Wednesday evening at the RAC.

With the win, Laramie County improves to 12-11 overall and 5-4 in the Region IX South. McCook drops to 13-6 and 4-5 in Region IX South play.

Landon Taliaferro (Boulder, Colorado) led the Golden Eagles with 25 points while Da'Zhon Wyche (Anchorage, Alaska) recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists. Elijah Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyoming) dropped 21 points in the contest. Taliaferro knocked down five 3-pointers in the game. Solomon Iluyomade (London, England) also had a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points. Kyle Wright (West Orange, New Jersey) added seven rebounds.

As a team, Laramie County shot 52.2 percent from the floor (35-for-67), hit 34.6 percent from the 3-point line (9-for-26) and shot 76 percent from the foul line (19-for-25).  

The Golden Eagles led 45-37 at the break and led by as many as 11 with under a minute left in the first half. Taliaferro and Oliver paced the Golden Eagles in the half with 12 and 11 points respectively.

In the second half, LCCC slowly began to extend their lead and led by as many as 21 points in the game. Golden Eagles shot 57.1 percent from the field in the second half. Both teams pulled down 39 rebounds and the Golden Eagles only committed 10 turnovers.

McCook was led by D'Von Moore with 16 points as part of three players in double figures for the Indians. Chuol Biel had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Kairee Forte added 15 points.
