Nelson Paces Golden Eagles In Road Loss at Western Wyoming

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – The Laramie County Community College volleyball team just about rallied back to pick up a win at Western Wyoming Community College but the Golden Eagles fell 3-2 on Friday evening in Rushmore Gym. The loss drops them to 4-3 in Region IX North play.

Sophomore Cassidy Nelson (South Jordan, Utah) paced the effort for the Golden Eagles on the evening with a team-best 26 kills and 19 digs. Freshman Kalme Moncavo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) added 12 kills while classmate Francesca Rossi (Rome, Italy) added 10 through the five-set match. Setter Shelby Veenstra (Twin Falls, Idaho) had 55 assists to lead the match.

Defensively, Rossi and Moncavo each added four and three blocks while Nelson and Kendzee Cloward (South Jordan, Utah) put up 19 digs. Veenstra led all servers with two aces on the evening.

Following Friday's match, the Golden Eagles fall to 6-21 overall and 4-3 in Region IX North play while the Mustangs improve to 18-9 overall.

The Golden Eagles look to get back on track as they travel to Central Wyoming College on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Rustler Gym.
