Golden Eagles Find Rhythm in Win at Casper

CASPER – The Laramie County Community College volleyball team turned its best performance of the 2019 season on Saturday as they defeated Casper College in four sets to move to 3-17 on the year and 1-1 in Region IX North play. The Golden Eagles to the match by a score of 25-14, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a six-point lead early in set one led by kills from Cassidy Nelson (South Jordan, Utah). The Thunderbirds rallied to trim the lead a bit but LCCC would be in control the rest of the set. Roles were reversed in set two as Casper took the early lead and had LCCC rally to trim the lead. CC finished the set with the win. Set three was a back-and-forth affair as neither team could pull off a big run until late in the set when the Golden Eagles got a stretch of straight points to close out the set. Casper fell into an early hole and could not recover and the Golden Eagles would take set four 25-17.

Nelson led the Golden Eagles with a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs. Kendzee Cloward (South Jordan, Utah) posted 14 digs to lead Laramie County. Cameron Callahan (Parker, Colorado) added nine kills. Gwen Sheldon (Loveland, Colorado) handed out 25 assists. In the win, LCCC outhit the Thunderbirds .231 to 0.69.

For the Thunderbirds, Casper was led by Elisa Haug with 10 kills. Mackenzie Leong collected 16 assists.  

The Golden Eagles wrap up their road trip on Tuesday as they take on Otero Junior College at 6 p.m.
