Avery Nelson Signs with NCAA DI Long Beach State

CHEYENNE – Laramie County Community College volleyball player Avery Nelson has signed a National Letter of Intent with NCAA DI Long Beach State University. The Colorado Springs native will join the 49ers who are located in Long Beach, California.

As a sophomore, she was the Golden Eagles leader in kills with 562 on the season. Her 562 kills were second best in the country. Nelson ranked 11th in the country in kills per set with 3.77. She holds the LCCC record for most kills in the history of the program at 1,034. She helped the Golden Eagles finish 32-9 on the year, winning the Region IX North title and reaching the NJCAA National Tournament for the second time where they finished ninth.

Nelson was named to the NJCAA All-America first team and the AVCA All-America second team. This is her second year being named to the NJCAA All-America team. Avery was named the Region IX North Player of the Year and made the All-Region IX team, All-Region Tournament team and WCCAC All-Conference team.

"I'm excited about my decision to attend Long Beach State as I really enjoyed my visit and fell in love with the program and campus," said Nelson. "They got a good volleyball program that is discipline, strong cultured and have history."

The 49ers finished 16-13 this past season and compete in the Big West Conference.
