Golden Eagles Sweep Lancers

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Kylie Martin (Gypsum, Colorado) collected 11 kills in a winning effort Tuesday evening. The Golden Eagles defeated Region IX North Eastern Wyoming College 25-14, 25-20, 25-9 to improve to 21-7 overall and 9-0 in Region IX North play.

Martin also finished with a .555 hitting percentage, eight digs and a block. Jazzy Espinoza (Cheyenne, Wyoming) chipped in with eight kills and Payton Stack (Casper, Wyoming) had five.

Kasandra Sturges (Parker, Colorado) was credited with 16 assists, while Gwen Sheldon (Loveland, Colorado) had 11 assists, five digs and two service aces in the winning effort. Kyle Meltzer (Fort Collins, Colorado) had a match-high 12 digs.

"I thought outside of a few moments in set two, that our team played pretty well and held focus throughout the match," said head coach Austin Albers. "Our setters did a really nice job and our set location was the best that I've seen it this year, which is encouraging as we move toward postseason. Our hitters were able to make some big swings because of the set quality and defensively our block did a nice job of getting touches and slowing down attackers. We'll need that same sharpness this weekend as we go back on the road against a T-Bird team that is always tough at home."

LCCC returns to action Friday night with a 7 p.m. match at Casper College.
