Volleyball Sweeps Western Wyoming Community College 3-0

CHEYENNE, WYOMING – The Laramie County Community College volleyball team wrapped up the weekend at home with a victory against Western Wyoming Community College. The Golden Eagles defeated the Mustangs in three sets (32-30, 25-14,25-15).

Avery Nelson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) led the Golden Eagles with 16 kills. Jazzy Espinoza (Cheyenne, Wyoming) was also in double figures with 10 kills and a .769 hitting percentage. Payton Stack (Casper, Wyoming) added eight kills. Stack had a game-high seven blocks in the match. Kasandra Sturges (Parker, Colorado) dished out 38 assists. Kyle Meltzer (Fort Collins, Colorado) recorded 12 digs in the match.

"Our ladies battled today against a talented Western Wyoming squad that pushed us to the limit in set one. I was really proud of the way that our team hung around and played within the system once we ran out of subs and got into a mess of a rotation in that long first set," said head coach Austin Albers. "We were able to use the momentum from that first win and found some matchups that we liked with a different rotation then we're used to running. A lot of times that can cause a team to panic or struggle but our team just settled in and played. As a coach, you love to see them have that maturity and trust in their ability to play the game at a high level regardless of where they're asked to play and impact the match."

The Golden Eagles will host Eastern Wyoming College in a Region IX North match-up on Tuesday, October 16, at 7:00 PM.
