Former Golden Eagle Madison Lacey Joins Volleyball Staff

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Head Women's Volleyball Coach, Austin Albers, announced on Monday the addition of Madison Lacey as the new assistant coach for the LCCC Volleyball program.

"I'm really excited to add Madison to our coaching staff and for the things that she is going to bring to our program," said Albers. "We've been able to build Golden Eagle Volleyball into a contender over the past few years and Madison was one of the players that helped lay the foundation of that back in the spring of 2014."

Lacey is a Wyoming native who grew up and graduated from Newcastle High School in Newcastle, Wyo. Her abilities as a three-sport scholar athlete for the Dogies translated into a scholarship offer to play collegiate volleyball at Laramie County Community College. Madison was with the Golden Eagles as a player in 2012-2014 where she played her freshman season as a defensive specialist and then started as the team's libero as a sophomore.

"When I took over Golden Eagle Volleyball in January of 2014, Madison was one of the sophomore captains that really helped me to initiate change in the culture," Albers said of his new assistant. "She had a genuine interest in leaving her own positive impression on the program and seeing it become successful even though her time here was over. Being able to bring back someone who has always showed an interest in the long term vision of the program was something that was really important as we searched for our next assistant coach."

"I am elated to join a program that has shown continuous growth and is really close to my heart," said Lacey. "It's such a great opportunity to return in a coaching capacity to a program that I went through as a player. I am getting another chance to make the program successful and I look forward to helping LCCC Volleyball reach new heights. I cannot wait to get into the gym, hit the recruiting trail, and get to work!"

After leaving LCCC, Lacey then went on to play her final two seasons of eligibility at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn. As a defensive specialist for the Mustangs, Lacey was part of the 2014 squad that came up just one win shy of a National Championship and finished as the NCAA DII National Runner-Up. In her senior season, her SMSU squad again made an NCAA Tournament run and finished the season with a 26-6 record.

Although this will be the first coaching stint of her career, Lacey brings with her plenty of teaching experience with several years as a camp clinician under her belt. Outside of helping assist with camps and clinics at both LCCC and SMSU, Lacey has spent several summers traveling across the region running summers camps with Midwest Elite Volleyball Camps.

Lacey is an education major and is currently finishing her degree from Southwest Minnesota State. She will graduate in May and hopes to be able to continue to fuel her passion for education and teaching by subbing in the Laramie County School District outside of the Golden Eagles' season.
