Golden Eagles Drop First Match at National Tournament

HUTCHINSON – Kylie Martin (Gypsum, Colorado) had team-high 14 kills as the Laramie County Community College volleyball lost the first match of the NJCAA National Tournament in four sets (18-25, 26-28, 25-20, 16-25) against Mineral Area College Thursday morning.

The Golden Eagles are now 32-7 overall and will play Eastern Arizona College Friday morning at 10 a.m. cst. in a consolation matchup.

The Cardinals who enter the match unbeaten improve to 35-0 on the year.

Martin's 14 kills marked the 18th time this season she's hit double figures. Avery Nelson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) added 12 kills for the Golden Eagles, who got five blocks from Payton Stack (Casper, Wyoming). Macy Bourn (Frederick, Colorado) had 14 digs, setter Kyra Brandt (Amsterdam, Netherlands) had 42 assists. Carlee Morrison (Gypsum, Colorado) and Jessica Benedict (Wright, Wyoming) had 10 kills. Service errors hurt the Golden Eagles as they committed six errors.

Cailey Bracken had 17 kills and Jane Kickham added 12 for Mineral Area who had 55 kills and 16 errors. LCCC had 52 kills and 24 errors.
