CHEYENNE, WY - Lauren Amerena (West Sussex, England) scored the only goal of the match, helping the Golden Eagles knock off Western Wyoming 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the Region IX finals on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles came out strong, controlling possession for the first 20 minutes of the match. After a brief spell of pressure from the Mustangs, the Golden Eagles broke through in the 39th minute thanks to Amerena who took a feed from Eli Olsen (Buffalo, Wyo.) and danced around the defender before slotting the ball past the keeper to give LCCC a 1-0 lead.
Western Wyoming provided most of the pressure in the second half but the Golden Eagles had a few chances to double the lead, hitting the crossbar on two shots, keeping the lead at 1-0.
Andi Hunsicker (Douglas, Wyo.) made her first career start in goal and stopped all six shots on target, including a big save in the 85th minute, keeping the Golden Eagles in front.
The shutout was the Golden Eagles' eighth of the season by their third different goalkeeper.
The Golden Eagles have punched their ticket to the NJCAA DI Women's Soccer Tournament held in Evans, Ga beginning on June 3.
